766 FICO credit score?

Postby marwood » Sun Jan 23, 2011 2:50 am

My current FICO credit score is 766. Is this considered a "good" score? How does having a 766 FICO score benefit me? Is there really a difference in FICO scores?

I appreciate your help.

766 FICO credit score?

Its pretty good, but keep going for that 800. Just don't max out any cards, always only use a small percentage of your "available credit", always pay all your bills on time, and utililize a wide range of debt types responsibly and you will be there in no time.

At 766 you should qualify for all of the best available rates. An 800 really is just for bragging rights more than anything else.

It's a good score.

Yes, there is a benefit to having good score. Good scores get you lower interest rates on loans which means you are paying less for something.

Keep your score up.

According to this entry in the forums at myfico.com, a score of 766 is in the 'very good ' range

The list of benefits is actually quite long. Not only will 766 get you a good interest rate as the others have already pointed out but it will let you get a loan with a lower down payment and will get you loans that you might not be able to get at all with a lower score. It will get you lower insurance premiums because insurance companies use credit scores as one of the factors in evaluating how much of a risk you are. People with lower scores are regarded as reckless and irresponsible and also low scores indicate someone who is more likely to file nuisance or bogus claims because they need the money. A high score will let you rent an apartment someone with a lower score might not get. Employers check credit scores to determine how responsible you are and how likely you are to pilfer or steal. It will get you a job you might not otherwise get. It might get you admitted to a better school.

Credit scores say much more about you than your credit worthiness. They are used as in indicator of your character.
