I have a good score, but I'm graduating in less than a year and would like to refinance my student loans shortly after. I have a 4 year credit history with credit cards, but no loans other than those student ones.
There's not much you can do other than making your student loan payments on time or paying down the loan faster than required. Your student loan debt is factored into your credit score so any other loans you make will only lower your score. Besides, I suspect any other loans you make will be at a higher interest rate than your student loans and will only cost you money. It is not "cheating" to do so but you will most likely not get such a loan as 1) you are a student and 2) you do not have a job.
And what do you mean by "paid it off right away"? If you mean immediately, i.e. withing the first month, it will do nothing for your credit score. If you mean pay as required, then it can help.
