Is quarter panel damage on a late-model Ford Mustang considered "frame damage"?

I am looking into trading in my car (a 2005 Mustang V6) for something smaller/cheaper. About two years ago someone side swiped the left quarter panel while my car was parked in a lot (it was a teenager who was pulling into the space next to mine and took the turn too wide). An accident report was filed and a claim filed through my insurance, which covered the repairs (about $1,500 worth of body work on the quarter panel).

Yesterday as I was getting my oil changed, my mechanic told me that because the late-model Mustangs are not "Full-Frame" bodies, any damage to the quarter panel is considered "Frame" damage, and due to this, I will take a significant hit on the trade-in value.

The book value is listed as around 7,500 on trade in. I currenly owe about 6,500 on the original loan.

Is this true? Is quarter panel damage on a 05-09 Mustang considered "Frame damage," and if so, how much will it devalue the car on the trade-in?
