What's the current relationship between the United Nations and the United States?

Postby sheedy » Tue May 24, 2011 5:14 am

I know that the US is an important member of the UN, but not much more than that.

Does the US respect UN authority? Does the US believe the UN does its job well? Are the operations in Iraq and Afghanistan UN approved? Or is the United States doing its own thing in those places?

We created the UN, (In San Francisco, California in 1939 under the leadership of FDR) so do what you want with that information as you deem proper. We created it to help bring other countries together and to get backing from other countries, specifically when we created our alliance with Britain, France, Russia, and our other allies during WW2. Today it is a place to diplomatically discuss and come up with joint resolutions of how to approach an issue that affects the international community. And although they have been bestowed some authority in theory, how do you think they will be able to enforce anything on the US? Unless the rest of the world all jumps on board and decides they want to go to war with us, or creates some kind of international trade embargo against us, we pretty much do what we want, and it's almost a joke to even think they have any type of real influence or authority over us.

No disparity exists. The United States is the United Nations.

The relationship is pretty the same as always; the US pays most of the bills to support the entire UN and about 100 countries with populations of about 17 people each, ruled by dictators, don't pay a dime in dues and vote against us on just about everything we try to do.

I don't respect anything about the UN. I have been of the opinion for many years that we should drop our membership in that ant-American organization who continues to suck at our fiscal jugular vein and kick that corrupt organization out of America.
