What if you fail a class on the Pell grant?

Postby alion » Wed Jan 12, 2011 12:32 am

Hi. I was wondering what usually happens if you fail a class while using the Pell grant?I know I will have to pay it back right? But in a lump sum or in payments? Who do I pay it to the school or some other place? I'm not sure how it all works since I've always got good grades. This math class..or actually the teacher is awful and everyone is failing. =(

When you fail a class even if you get the pell grant you don't have to pay it back. Some schools have it in their policies that if you fail a class you pay to retake it and it needs to be the very next class you take but those are usually online colleges and a way to get rid of people who are not serious about school. If your at a regular school than you wont be repaying anything. Just retake the class (hopefully with a different teacher) and get a better grade. The only time to really worry about failing a class and being on aid is if your GPA drops below a 2.0 (or at some schools a 2.5).
