How much did you pay them?

Can't really be answered.

You either pay them more during the year to get some refunded, or pay less and use it until you pay them in April.

Tax refunds are based on more than just income. They also depend on whether you are filing the 1040A or the 1040 (deductions) and most importantly, how much you had withheld from your salary. Without that info, no one can answer whether you are getting back or paying in.

Absolutely no possible way to say. Any refund depends upon your tax liability and how much tax was withheld. If you filled out your W-4 properly, you'd be very close to even money when you filed and would not get much of a refund or have much of a debt to pay.

Why do people think that their refund is determined by their income. Your tax REFUND is determined by the difference of your tax liability MINUS the income taxes withheld during the year.....hence the word REFUND.

Somewhere between zero and a lot. Would need to know what you had withheld - box 2 on your W-2 if you have one.

It would be whatever the tax is on $28,650, minus whatever you had withheld, minus the $400 Making Work Pay tax credit, minus any other credits you might be eligible for.

Just go to any one of the free filing sites on the Web and start plugging in your numbers, and in 30 minutes or less you'll know exactly what you might owe or might be getting back, and we won't have to sit here and do the math for you!
